Chores

Sometimes i wonder how i manage to get anything done around the house. i attempt to keep the place relatively clean, do laundry regularly, and cook dinner everyday. (i do however, not cook breakfast or lunch on weekends! thankfully brent is the weekend breakfast chef!) there are days though that i think i get absolutely nothing accomplished!!! not that i'm making excuses, but maybe these pictures will help explain why...

need i mention that i am trying to cook???
(french onion soup....yum!)

my youngest chef

yes, the entire silverware drawer has been emptied...

they both come flying when they hear the dryer door open!!!
In all seriousness though, my mom had this poem about "little fingers" and how we need to embrace those little fingerprints on the walls and messes on the floors because those times are fleeting....i try to remind myself of that daily. if i find that poem, i'll post it....landon, check your baby book - it may be there. (can't find it in mine.)

Yummy Recipe

Just wanted to share a good recipe with you - especially since its really kid friendly and i'm always searching for something healthy that avery will eat. the recipe is for greek pita pizzas and its from my sister-in-law hannah. avery loves them - i leave the tomato and olives off of hers and she can polish off about 2/3 of a pita herself! here it is:

1 can artichoke hearts, chopped and drained well
2 zucchini - coarsely shredded
1 tsp minced garlic
1/4 tsp dried oregano
6 pitted kalmato olives, chopped
4 whole wheat pitas (6.5 inch diameter)
1/3 cup crumbled feta cheese
1 cup grape tomatoes, halved
1/2 cup shredded mozarella cheese
1 scallion, thinly sliced

preheat oven to 425. cook the artichokes, zucchini, garlic and oregano for about 5 minutes over medium high heat, until the zucchini is tender. stir in the olives. place pitas on a baking sheet and spread with zucchini mixture. sprinkle with feta and tomatoes. bake for about 10 minutes. sprinkle with mozzarella and bake 3-4 minutes longer until the cheese is melted. sprinkle with scallions and let stand for a few minutes before serving.

enjoy it! and maybe your kids will secretly eat zucchini and artichokes under the pretense of "pizza!"

Snow Day - take 2!

Here are a few more pictures from day 2 of playing in the snow...the kids did much better today - i had to make avery come in after about 45 minutes because griffy was an icecube! she would have stayed out forever! she did drag brent out the minute he got in from work and they played for another 45 minutes or so! its melting today so it will probably be another year before we see snow again!

Let it snow!!!

We awoke this morning to a little over 1 inch of snow, and the sky was still showering it down. Griffin had no clue what to think of it but became really excited once he saw Avery's reaction! She has only seen snow once in real life but has a few movies with snow - so she knew it meant snowmen and "rolling" (AKA snow angels!). She was giddy as she looked out the window this morning...needless to say, we were already playing in the snow at 7:30 AM! But it didn't last too long because the little princess wouldn't leave her gloves on and started crying because her hands were cold! Griffin just fell over continually but smiled all the same.

After Griffy's morning nap, we headed over to the Likes house (along with the Masseys) so the mommy's could sip mimosas while the kids played! Then we had grilled cheeses and tomato soup for everyone! The snow continued to fall until around 1 and we ended up with about 3-4 inches of it!

Givin' it a try!

friends and family -

i am going to give this blogging thing a try! i've resisted long enough but feel like i need an outlet to share the daily excitement of our lives and share the hilarious stories from my day. we'll see how it goes! my goal will be to update it 2-3 times a week, sometimes with stories and others with just pictures. and since my thoughts come out much clearer in writing than in spoken words, i may just throw some of that in there too!

let me get started by sharing a funny Avery story from today. we were driving home from church and she was singing her "blessing" that her class sings before their snack. (its to the tune of "where is thumpkin" but starts out "God our Father...") it ends with a 3 syllable "amen" but she was singing "all-the-men, all-the-men!" brent and i cracked up but such is our life with a very verbal 2 1/2year old.

anyway, i hope you'll enjoy a glimpse into our lives through this attempt at blogging...
